How do I install Auto 3in1 Desktop edition in Windows Vista? For more detailed instruction in the Novice level see faq16 How do I set up Auto 3in1 for Vista with User Access Control? NOTE: Auto 3in1 Desktop Version 1.5.8 has the proper installer for Windows Vista, if your version is older, you will need to Upgrade. You can Upgrade from version 1.5.1 by clicking here, from the Download page or check the upgrade message in your Auto 3in1 Help Menu Windows Vista presents several minor but important changes to installing Auto 3in1. Because of the UAS (User Access Security) that is built into Vista, only specific areas of the PC can be used for data. If you have UAS enabled you will need to follow the directions below. Q: How do I know if it is enabled? A: If it is not, you will get one of those famous warning messages every time you log into your system telling you that the user access security is disabled.
Active Sync will not run in Windows Vista, you need to install Windows Mobile Device Center
This is available through Microsoft. Next, the setup program can not run the installer for the Pocket PC due to advanced system security therefore you will need to fully install the desktop edition then manually install the Pocket PC edition by selecting Install PPC Edition from the Help Menu in Auto 3in1
In some cases, you will also need to move the data and backup folders out of the highly protected Program Files Folder
If you have Administrator Access or UAS is disabled:
Create a folder 3in1 Files
in the root directory of C, then create 2 folders in that folder called
Data and
Backup.
Copy (Do not delete the original files) all of the files from C:\Program Files\Pocketfleet\Auto 3in1\Data\ to C:\3in1 Files\Data and all of the files from C:\Program Files\Pocketfleet\Auto 3in1\Backup\ to C:\3in1 Files\Backup
If you log into Vista as a user:
The UAS (User Access Security) prevents programs from writting to any areas except the user area, you will then need to crate data and backup folders in the User area
Replace the <Your Login> with
the login you use to access Vista, for example "Don"
C:\Users\<Your Login>\Documents\Auto 3in1\Data\ And C:\Users\<Your Login>\Documents\Auto 3in1\Backup\ You will then need to set your paths in Auto 3in1 Setup to these new
paths and copy your data and backup files accordingly. This will allow Auto 3in1 to synchronize and modify the data files
without interference from the Vista UAS system. For further assistance, feel free to contact
