How do I set up Auto 3in1 for Vista with User Access Control?

NOVICE COMPUTER USER LEVEL INSTRUCTIONS

Windows Vista with UAS (User Access Control) prevents software from using the normal areas of a hard drive and restricts the user to a section for that user only.

This requires that we create the data and backup folders in the user access area for the user... You

Here is a step-by-step instruction on moving the folders to your user area and setting up Auto 3in1

For this demo, we will use my user access account "Don" you would replace that with whatever you use to log into Windows Vista, usually your first name.

Mouse controls will be worded as Left Click or Right Click

Points of interest will be shown with a red painted arrow

First select the computer icon , it will open the file explorer, in the favorite links on the left select Documents

In the Documents folder, create a New folder by right clicking below the list and selecting New, then selecting Folder

The new folder now needs to be renamed to Auto 3in1 from the name New Folder, do this by simply typing Auto 3in1 while the word New Folder is highlighted blue as shown above

We now have a folder in the Don->Documents folder called Auto 3in1

Select this folder by clicking on the folder icon next to Auto 3in1 and repeat the steps to create a Data and a Backup folder in the Auto 3in1 Folder

Now we need to copy the installed sample data and configuration files from the old data folder to the new data folder

Select Local Disk C from the left column then select 3in1 Files from the folders in Local Disk C

Then select the DATA folder

Next Highlight the files in the data folder by single clicking on the top file, then move the mouse to the bottom file , hold the Shift key on the keyboard and click on the bottom file

Now right click on any of the selected files and select COPY

Next, navigate to the NEW data folder by selecting DOCUMENTS from the Favorite Links then DATA from the folders list on the left, you should see your login > Documents > Data in the top bar and the folder should be empty

Right click in the blank area and select Paste

You should now have all of the files from the old data folder moved to the new data folder, repeat the copy and paste if you have backup data to the backup folder.

You can close the explorer and start Auto 3in1 Desktop edition now

Select Setup

Select the Folders Tab then select the Folder icon next to the DATA path in the Data Folder Box

a browser window will open, Select DOCUMENTS then DATA for the data folder, then click on the folder in the backup path box and select the DOCUMENTS then BACKUP

The boxes should look like this now (With your name as the user of course...)

Data Folder

Backup Folder

While on this page, Select Connect Direct

You may now exit setup and the data you had, if any will still be listed as though noting had changed, only now new data can be entered without Vista blocking it

You can now send data to the Pocket PC, recommended if this is the initial setup, and your setup is complete

or if you have been using the Pocket PC for data entry and you want to transfer that data to the desktop, select GET

This concludes the Vista setup, if you have any questions or any problems, please email pfsupport@roger.com
